Booktelevision Edits

There was no need to work around commercials back when Prisoners of Gravity was produced for TVOntario, because there were none. TVOntario is a public television station and doesn't air commercials. However, Prisoners of Gravity last aired on Booktelevision, which does air commercials and the original episodes were edited for time. If you've never seen Prisoners of Gravity beyond the Booktelevision reruns, here's what you're missing. This list will hopefully be updated as I get my hands on more complete episodes.

While the Discovery Channel run also had edits, this list only deals with the Booktelevision edits.

Stereotypes

Cut location: The end of the interview with Nichelle Nichols.
Lost content: The very end of the Nichelle Nichols interview (image) and a short scene of Rick thanking Nichelle (image).

New Worlds

Cut location: Everything between the PoG opening to the first interview.
Lost content: Commander Rick rants how the spirit of the sixties is dead and Nan-Cy celebrates. This scene sets up some of the character-based humour later in the episode (image, audio clip from this scene). The return of New Worlds as a paperback is addressed, leading into the first interview.

Covers

Cut location: Everything before the PoG opening.
Lost content: I've never seen the full version of this episode. Other than the Second Nature opening, unknown.

World Building

Cut location: Everything before the PoG opening.
Lost content: The Second Nature opening, which included a lead in with Enrico Gruen discussing urban wildlife. I'm not 100% what happened before the PoG opening with Commander Rick, because my copy of the uncut version glitches here.

Death

Cut location: Everything before Prisoners of Gravity opening and possibly the post-opening introduction to the topic.
Lost content: I've never seen the full version of this episode. The remaining material opens with Rick mentioning denial, so the cut material may have introduced the stages of death acceptance and explained that strange stand-up comedian who keeps popping up throughout the episode.

Vampires

Cut location: Everything before Prisoners of Gravity opening.
Lost content: I've never seen the full version of this episode. Other than the Second Nature opening, unknown.

Crime and Punishment

Cut location: Everything after the Prisoners of Gravity opening up until the interview with Walter Jon Williams.
Lost content: Rick's introduction to the topic (image), an interview with P.D. James (image), and an interview with Lois McMaster Bujold interview (image). Oddly enough, a scene with Rick discussing Bujold's book is left in right before going into the Williams interview.
