Broadcast History

Since 1989, Prisoners of Gravity has been on a variety of television stations. The TVO broadcasts were the only place you could see first run episodes; the rest just reran the old episodes. Here's the places you could have watched PoG in the past. Click the station logo to visit it's official website. To find out which episodes played during a run, please visit the episode page.

TVOntario TVOntario (1989-1994)

Prisoners of Gravity's first home; TVOntario's old logo can still be seen during the show's opening sequence, on the title image, and at the end of the closing credits. The TVOntario run started on September 11, 1989. During season one, the show aired on Mondays at 7:30pm, repeating later in the evening at 11pm. It shifted to Thursday nights at 7:30pm in the beginning of season two. TVOntario began shifting Prisoners of Gravity around like mad halfway through this season, suddening pushing it back to much later in the evening. The series floated for the rest of its run. The days and times changed repeatly; at some points it aired only once a week and at others it came on multiple times. The only thing that remained the same was a weekly broadcast on Thursday nights. The last first run episode aired on Thursday April 28, 1994.

TFO La Chaine Francaise [Now TFO] (1989-1994)

TFO is TVO's sister station and airs mostly French programming. Many years ago, the two stations would flip on Sundays. So, one day a week, TVO would air the French programming from TFO and TFO would air only English programming from TVO. Prisoners of Gravity repeated on Sunday nights, so instead of airing on TVO, the repeat would appear on TFO. The Sunday reruns started airing at 7:30pm. They were shifted back as the series progressed, although not quite as late as the TVOntario air times. During the middle of the series, the show aired at around 8pm and by the end, it was aired at 11pm.

Knowledge NetworkKnowledge Network (early-mid 1990s)

Knowledge Network aired the series in the 1990s. I'm not certain when it started, but I've found references of it being canceled before 1996. Sorry, that's all the information I have right now.

PBS PBS affiliates (1993)

PBS stations picked up a package of 10 episodes of Prisoners of Gravity in the late summer/early fall of 1993. This was for a trial launch called "There's No Such Thing As A Free Launch". The test stations for the series were KERA (Dallas/Ft. Worth), KETC (St. Louis), KPBS (San Diego), KRMA (Denver), New Jersey Network, North Carolina Network, Oregon Public Broadcasting, WGBH (Boston), WHA (Madison, WI), WMVS (Milwaukee, WI), WNED (Buffalo), WPBT (Miami) and WPSX (University Park, PA). Not all stations started airing the series at the same time; the earliest started in the beginning of September, while some other stations waited until October. The scheduled broadcast times also varied from station to station and, in some markets, Prisoners of Gravity was aired as part of a hour long science fiction programming block with the British series Red Dwarf. The show didn't catch on in the American markets in the end and no more episodes were purchased.

The Discovery Channel Discovery Channel (1995-199?)

Discovery Channel bought broadcast rights to all the original episodes. Episodes included commercials, which means that the episodes were cut for time. The original TVOntario episodes run longer than standard TV episodes because, like other public TV stations, TVOntario doesn't air commercials. Consequently, the Prisoners of Gravity bumpers used on Discovery for the commercial breaks were unique to this run. I'm not certain when Discovery stopped their reruns, but it was probably before Space started their run.

Space Space: The Imagination Station (1997-2000)

Space reruns only had 100 episodes from season two and onward, selected by Mark Askwith. The airing order of the episodes was also changed. This wouldn't have had been a problem, except the season two episodes looked different from episodes from season three and onward. The end result was a little confusing when you saw a season two sandwiched between two later episodes. Episodes that dealt with more mature topics, such as the episode "New Worlds", had a content warning play before them. Prisoners of Gravity aired on weekday evenings when it began playing on Space, but it was later switched to early weekday mornings where it replaced the ill-fated run of Doctor Who. While I can't remember anything concerning earlier runs of the show, the episodes that aired in the mornings were uncut, commercial free, and sponsored by Tim Hortons. The reruns ended at the end of summer, 2000.

Booktelevision Booktelevision: The Channel (2001-2005)

Several brief clips of Prisoners of Gravity appeared in the ads that played in summer 2001 promoting Booktelevision: The Channel. So, it comes as no surprise that Booktelevision started airing reruns of Prisoners of Gravity when the station came online in the fall of 2001. The total amount of episodes in the run was limited to 26 episodes from season 2 and onward. Unlike the run on Space, the episodes were shown in their proper order. There was an earlier problem with the episodes labeled 16 and 17 being flipped for some reason, resulting in episode 17 being aired before 16. I believe this was later corrected. Booktelevision aired one episode a week, repeating it several times. Commercials were included and in turn, the episodes were edited for time. Some edits weren't very noticeable, but others were very crude; in a few cases everything before the Prisoners of Gravity opening sequence was cut. The reruns ended at the end of summer, 2005.
