The small village of Drayton may seem an unlikely place for a Star Trek convention, but on March 11 and 12, for the second year n a row, it will be invaded by Klingons, Vulcans, Starfleet personnel, and other assorted fictional characters.

According to organizer Linda Brubacher, Drayton Trek '95 will be larger than last year's event, which was held at Drayton Public School.

This year, the convention will be held at the village arena.

Among the guests will be Rick Green, of TV Ontario's Prisoners of Gravity. He also appears on the Red Green Show and as a member of the comedy troupe The Frantics, and he will offer A Frantic Overview of Canadian Television.

There will also be workshops by science fiction and fantasy writers James Alan Gardner, Shirley Meier, and Karen Wehrstein.

Entertainment is by the Not Ready for Starfleet Players and by Hit and Run Theatre, who will spoof an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Merchandise related to Star Trek, Star Wars, and Dr. Who will be available, with about twice as many vendors as last year.

Blacksmith Robb Martin will also have a display of medieval weapons and armor.

Funds raised from the convention will be used by the arts group to bring live children's programming to the Drayton Festival Theatre.

Drayton Trek '95 takes place March 11 and 12 at the Peel- Maryborough-Drayton Arena, in Drayton, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children.
