There's Lots to Do at Spring Break

Space Flights: During March Break (Saturday to March 22) only, the Challenger Learning Centre offers free 30- minute flights for those 11 and older (those 7 to 10 must be accompanied by an adult), every hour starting 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Starship: A futuristic starship where you can assemble your away team and shuttle over to a realistic moonscape for a chat with some alien life-forms can be found in the Great Hall.

Fiction: Also in the Great Hall there's a display of science fiction and space fantasy costumes from Star Wars, Star Trek, "V" and Dr. Who and a do-it- yourself computerized writing exhibit for budding authors to pen personalized passages of fantasy fiction to take home.

Workshops: Mini-workshops with themes from Weird Reflections to Polarized Rainbows are offered for those 4 to 12, Monday to March 20, 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets for each 45-minute program on a first- come, first-served basis. $1 per person (plus admission).

Costume- making: An hour-long show of science fiction costume- making includes lectures by local costume designers, Saturday to March 22, 1 p.m.(except March 15, 12:30 p.m.).

Writing: Learn 10 key tips to successful science fiction writing taught by science fiction authors, Saturday to March 22, 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Film: For All Mankind, a film explores the beauty of space as seen and photographed by the Apollo Mission Astronauts, Saturday to March 22, 10:30 to noon, Theatre B.

Star Trek: A hilarious spoof based on Star Trek episode and film takes place, Saturday and Sunday, noon to 3 p.m.

Discovery: Allan Busch, manager of the Science Centre's new Challenger Learning Centre, talks about the centre and screens a short film, Discovery astronaut Roberta Bondar, Sunday, 2 p.m., Theatre B.

Inaccuracies: TV Ontario personality and Prisoners of Gravity host Commander Rick Green, gives an illustrated talk on the scientific (in)accuracies of science fiction writing and filmmaking March 21, 1:15 p.m.

Art: Discover how art is used in science fiction and space fantasy literature and filmmaking and the artistic processes involved, March 22, 1:15 p.m.

Club: Oscott Club offers programs, Monday to March 20, 9:30 to noon for those 8 to 10, and 1 to 3:30 p.m. for those 11 to 13. Members $81; non-members $90. To register, 696-3153. The centre is at 770 Don Mills Rd., Don Mills. 429-4100.
