I thought I was one of the seven or eight people on the planet who could claim faithful fanhood for TVOntario's sort-of-science- fiction-comedy series, Prisoners of Gravity. Judging by a single passionate phonecall, it's really soul-stirring to learn there must be a lot more of you out there who lost track of the show for awhile and wonder where it got to.
Yes, Commander Rick (comedian Rick Green) is alive, well, and still in orbit (remember, he wanted to get away from it all and managed to crash-land on a derelict communications satellite). He's still fouling up Earth TV signals on a weekly basis with his renegade musings on the state of things.
Prisoners of Gravity began a new season at the start of October and is now seen at 10:30 p.m. Thursdays (Channel 28, Cable 2), but we're told you can also catch these episodes again every Sunday at 8 p.m. over TVO's La Chaine Francaise (Cable 32) - in English.
Tomorrow's segment deals with addictions. Besides discussing drugs, alcohol and TV, Rick also looks at computer junkies, workaholics, and science-fiction fanatics. Feature interviews include S-F masters Larry Niven and Spider Robinson, who've nearly become regulars on the show, as well as a spot on Marvel's new SpiderMan anti-drug comic books.
So while you're saying an emphatic No to Drugs, you can say yes to Prisoners - the only side-effects will be a regular tickle in the funnybone and some extra vitamins for the cranium. Jose Ferrer guest stars on Maniac Mansion on YTV at 9 p.m.
