What's a fanlisting?

In it's most basic form, a fanlisting is a list of people who are fans of a particular subject. Anyone can join and the only requirement is your name and your country. There's no cost at all and this offer will not expire! Ever! Hopefully!

This fan listing is for Maniac Mansion, a video game that was first released in the 1980s.

What's Maniac Mansion?

According to the box, it's the “comedy thriller that dares to be different”. Online, it's often referred to as “That game where you get to microwave the hamster”.

To be more exact, Maniac Mansion is a graphic adventure game based on really bad horror movies. It was the first game to use LucasArt's (then Lucasfilm Games) SCUMM system. Maniac Mansion was also one of the very first games to include “cut scenes”, the short sequences that play like a video clip and help advance the plot.

The plot is starts as a parody of the horror genre; local college student Dave Miller discovers that his girlfriend, cheerleader Sandy Pantz, has been kidnapped by the insane Dr. Fred Edison. Dave decides to not take this sitting down and calls on his friends - Bernard, Razor, Wendy, Jeff, Syd and Michael, of which you can pick two in gameplay - to help rescue Sandy from a rather nasty fate. Standing between Dave and his goal is the rest of the Edison family; some possible friends and others dangerous foes. As the story progresses, it veers off into the land of science fiction as the truth about what happened twenty years ago and Dr. Fred's plans of world domination are slowly uncovered.

The game features multiple endings and plots because the playable characters have a wide range of different talents; Bernard, Wendy and Michael each have a different storyline and Razor and Syd share one. No one single plot can officially be declared as the “real” one. To make matters more complicated, the sequel explains that the game is exactly that – a video game. The game was based on an actual series of events that happened in the Maniac Mansion universe, and comments made by the Edisons and Bernard in Day of the Tentacle imply that it was probably close to what's presented in this game, barring a few minor events. For example, how Bernard and Green became close friends isn't explained, but we do discover the fate of Weird Ed's hamster.
